i'm totally loving that this forum is starting to get a few people trading cool idea. man a vegan business community who would have ever thought there would be enough of us! To apply for Neis you do need to be unemployed but in my case i actually quit my job and applied for it the next day. everyone loves neis because you basically get the dole for a year while running you business. It's a ten grand pension spread across your first year of trading.

anikee, good luck with the shop it sounds like your going to do a good job of it and keep us in the loop, i'm always happy to help with ideas. I always though a vegan cafe that had some cooking classes would be good, when i first went vegan i had no idea how to cook.

Re: Shop space for rent. Share with an ethical merch company

reselling would be cool as well but a cafe would work well. it's true that macro is there but it's about three blocks away and on a street like bridge rd that's mile. Also not to point to blunt a point on it i find the macro cafe section well below par. Bridge rd doesn't have a lot of cafes compared to a lot of other strips and all the ones it does have are always packed. I mean a shop like your planning would be great but it could be both, like macro is. bye.

Shop space for rent. Share with an ethical merch company

June 8, 2008 by rocket

hey guys i've posted before about my business Stay Human and how i've got a great shop upstairs 77 bridge rd, richmond. The space is really big and i'm not using it all so i thought it would be very cool if someone wanted to start an organic cafe or something similar. The space is about 7meters squared and located in a very good spot in bridge rd, just across from the tofu shop.

I basically want to share with any business in a similar field who will draw some people in and make the place more interesting. The rent will vary depending if you want to use all the space or not but it's pretty cheap between 150-300 a week for a prime location. Let me know what you think.

This is my part of the space. the building is new with nice hardwood floors.contact: rocketxhuman@gmail.com<br>

Re: Queensland - Gold Coast/Logan/Brisbane - Investor - Thinking About Becoming Involved In Food Van/Place

You're right in saying it's better to start your own idea rather than go the franchise route unless it's a really ground breaking idea. Why pay franchise fees to think up an idea anyone could have.As for the post you'll hook up with the right person as more find out about the forum and site.

With protein powder i mix it into my museli for breakfast but i don't hit the gym much so i don't get out of it what i could.it's a good top up though. I hunted down a place that sells organic brown rice protein because i heard that too much soy can be bad for guys and i get plenty of soy already in more tasty forms like tofu.

ichtaca,

i'm suprised no one has jumped at this oppertunity. i live in melbourne so can't be much help but a business i think you might have luck with is called Trippy Taco in melbourne. They aren't a franchise yet but i think they would make a great one. They do mexican as you may have guessed, it's quick food to make and they actually started off doing festivals like earthcore and made enough money to start a shop. Since they are in melbourne and you're in QLD i'm sure they would be happy to franchise and they would know about servicing festivals. They don't have a website but a search for wil get more details.
good luck with it and if you ever want to invest in selling vegan protien powder or no sweatshop merchandise then give me a bell. bye.

jo, the business has been going for six years but the shop is just a month old, thus i'm still looking for things to fill out the retail side. With the fairtrade products starting a webstore is a must. You can have a hosted webstore with domain for less than $100 if you DIY. With the shop i have been renting parts of my space to some people. Depending on how much space you needed it would only be between $20-50 a week. I'm doing it just so people stock cool stuff in the shop and it brings people in, who will hopefully remember me if they need merch ever.

As for 90% of businesses failing, just remember to keep your day job and you'll be fine. Something can't collapse under you if you never put any weight on it. Also consider doing Neis. it could be another good way to ease into it. Feel free to drop by the shop and have a geezer if you like. bye.

Re: Vegan Restaurants?

I'm not sure if

Lord of the Fries

is franchising but they would be a great one. If you haven't seen them they do veg and vegan takeaway burgers and fries, basically veg fastfood. they started off with mobile vans so they might be able to hook you up with one. also there is a kick arse melbourne vegan/veg place called Trippy taco (48 Smith St
Collingwood ph(03) 9415 7711) again they haven't advertised anything but it's an easy business model, just great mexican food from a small shop. they might be interested too. I'd say the best bet is to just call them up and ask, most are small businesses and may not have thought seriously about the idea yet.

Hey jojo my name's rocket i have a shop on bridge rd richmond and i think if you're interested we might be able to work something out together. I run an ethical merch company where people come in and order custom merch. i also have badge machines set up for DIY making and a small range of no sweatshop clothes. I really want to add more fairtrade products and other stuff like you mentioned but i really don't have time to source the stuff and keep it stocked.

Maybe you could check out the space because it's quite large and i could possible rent you some space to have your shop in mine as a way to start off. Or maybe a partnership of sorts. Anyway the shop idea is good. There are a few around but not a lot and most of the places are sort of like oxfam shops, more giftcentric. anyway check out my website to see a few pics of the shop and get an idea of what i'm doing.
