Re: Apprentice Chef Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery)

This job came up again because it's still going. This time i found it on MyCareer, and this is the text:

The successful applicant will assist in preparation of meals, assisting with both Bain Marie and Table Service. Have a general understanding or willingness to learn about vegan, vegetarian and gluten free dietary requirements. Kitchen caters to a large number of International Students.

That confirms the job isn't vegan, so i removed the new thread, but am leaving this one here for interest.

Re: Barista / Cafe hand

This *isn't* a vegan job. I'm leaving it up only for interest.

The full text of the ad says 'We use Organic and Free range meats, and produce a large selection of Vegan and gluten free products.'

Let us know when the website's going...

This one may have been taken down, since i can't locate it.

In any case, seems unlikely it would be a solely vegan job.

Re: Cook

July 18, 2008 by avbf

This is interesting, but there are no details of where the job is and so on.

After investigating, though, turn out the job is in Perth for a cook who does omnivore cooking along with vegan food. So not a good listing. Out of interest, here's the full listing:

hi anikee

how's the store coming?

you were planning to have a website back in may - any news on that?

hope things are on track!

Re: Chef

July 9, 2008 by avbf

Hmm - it's great the East Brunswick Club is asking for someone who can do veg/vegan cooking, but it's not likely they'd accept someone who only did vegan cooking.

Still, interesting...

Re: NSW - Southern Sydney - Would like to meet others with similar ambitions

July 7, 2008 by avbf

What sort of thing are you more interested in mfg?

Can you give an example from one of your US or UK bookmarks?

As to the work of Ching Hai, they're really helping to raise the profile of going veg and a step further, promoting veganism.

They now want to try and put meat eating on the agenda of politicians. Good on them!

Re: veginity

June 19, 2008 by avbf

Just an amendment to my previous post - since Australian Vegan Business is moving to a new platform within the next few weeks, apart from a few entries that have already been scheduled to go on site, no more additions to the existing site will be made so that things will be easier to shift over.

Once there, though, veginity and other businesses will appear as new entries within 2-3 weeks.

Free Mainstream Exposure

June 18, 2008 by avbf

This may not work for everyone, but Australian Anthill magazine, which is about small to medium business in Australia (nonvegan), is calling for submissions for a reader created article about the Steps To Launching A Successful Startup In Australia.

You only have to have a key idea to present and submissions are brief, in the form of blog comments.

This gives vegan businesses a chance to get in front of a mainstream audience, since any contributions you make can contain a link back to your site.

If you have a business and would like to add a step, here's the link to follow:

I heard on the weekend that a store in Melbourne will be opening in the future.

This was slightly more that idle chit chat, though i wouldn't regard it as fact.

Re: Shop space for rent. Share with an ethical merch company

I've seen it before, but it looks like a good space.

Wouldn't it be great to have two complementary vegan businesses right next to each other!

Re: Thought-Provoking Vegan Question

May 16, 2008 by avbf

hi fattish

wow, that sounds like a lotta horse poop to me!

lucky horses are vegan, too, unless owners feed them egg, cod liver oil etc. even if they weren't, it's still horse poop, not a horse.

so while 1 kilo of horse poop seems like a lot, you can retain your devout vegan status.

that said, while your story's fascinating, it's not really news, and it definitely isn't business, so for similar posts try a forum that's more suitable - there are plenty around.

Re: Queensland - Gold Coast/Logan/Brisbane - Investor - Thinking About Becoming Involved In Food Van/Place

May 5, 2008 by avbf

hi alicat!

i really like the idea, although i'm not clear on some of it. i gather you're saying the bike stops while the drinks are being made and the customer or someone else peddles on a stationary platform of some sort?

it would be great being able to buy fresh juice up and down beaches - and bike/solar powered!

you should start a separate thread on this in the same section.

Hi Rocket

Following from jojo's idea, Bliss Organic Cafe in Adelaide carry organic fair trade products. They say 'We would love to showcase a wider variety of local produce':

What they mean by local might need straightening out, but it could prove fruitful.

Here's their contact form:

Re: Anyone know

February 26, 2008 by avbf

hi sacback

provided they're vegan jobs, or chances for a vegan business, you can mention them on this forum. if they're not vegan, they'll be deleted, since they don't relate to the forum topic.

you can put vegan jobs in this category, but if they're more opportunities to work at home, rather than jobs (where you're paid by someone else), put them in the new Business Opportunities category.

Re: Legal Definition of Vegan Considered by Govt

February 26, 2008 by avbf

hi sacback

being vegan and vegetarian are related but fairly different.

a vegetarian doesn't eat animal flesh - whether it's from cows or fish - but does eat milk, eggs or both. vegans try to avoid animal products altogether, getting their food, clothes and other things from plants or minerals (or a synthetic based on them). they also look for products that haven't been tested on animals.

vegans go a step past being vegetarian because there's still cruelty in making things like milk. for example, dairies routinely take calves away from their mothers within a few days, the mother is made continually pregnant so she gives milk every year, and is milked while she's pregnant. when her milk production goes down she's killed - typically around 5 years old, 15 years before her natural death. many dairy cows also suffer from painful conditions such as foot disease and breast infection.

people who follow a vegan diet and no more are called dietary vegans, but don't qualify as full vegans:
